When You Do Everything Right and Still Lose
Following up when the results don’t follow you back
Yesterday was one of those days, ya know the ones where you show up do the work, say the right things, followed through like a gem…
And yet…the results suck.
Below average response rates…badly missed expectations.
Way off - for a short period of time I was upset.
No nonsense it stung quite a bit…
Questioned, why the fudge do I punish myself with this crazy thing called sales where you start second-guessing yourself wondering if all the effort was worth it.
Before getting on my bike to ride home from the office, I collected and reminded myself…
You can do everything right and still not get what you want.
Is it failure?
Or reality?
The ladder is the answer.
Ain’t noooo guarantees in follow-up.
No drive thru windows handing out deals because you rolled up and dropped a couple bucks like you would on a big mac.
It’s a test, the ultimate test to see whether you’re doing it to cheat yourself or to change yourself?
What’s the difference?
The ones who cheat themselves throw in the towel. Stop pushing for more. Pull the plug and shutdown and make the problem pervasive…focus on the give in rather than the grow through.
If you follow up only when it works you’re a visitor.
If you follow up regardless - you’re the standard.
What happens when you don’t let temporary results influence your longterm standard.
You become the one who does the work because it’s who he or she is.
So yeah, yesterday didn’t go my way, still we’re here today, following up again.
Same tone, same energy, same intent…that’s the game and those should be the rules and remember you make your own rules.
Show up, make the call, keep doing everything right even when it doesn’t go right.
